FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register my child for a program?
Tryout or evaluation registration will be available on the Rockford F.I.R.E. website before the start of each season. Following evaluations, coaches will assess each athlete's abilities, roster needs, and appropriate division placement to determine the best team fit. Athletes who are offered a roster spot will receive a private registration link to join their assigned team.
If formal tryouts are held, coaches will determine which athletes will be invited to join the Rockford F.I.R.E. Whenever possible, we strive to provide every athlete with an opportunity to participate in our program.
Families who are new to the Rockford F.I.R.E. will also need to complete a New Family Application. After the application has been reviewed, a board member will contact you to schedule an interview. This is an opportunity for us to get to know your family, answer any questions you may have, and share what makes the Rockford F.I.R.E. unique.
Does my child need experience?
From first-time athletes to experienced competitors, the Rockford F.I.R.E. offers Christ-centered athletic programs designed to help to help athletes develop their skills, build lasting friendships, and grow in character.
How often do you practice?
Practices are typcially twice a week. Occasionally an additional practice may be scheduled. During some weeks, a game may fall on a regular practice day, in which case practie will not be held.
What is included in the registration fee?
Registration fees cover season games and most tournaments. There may be some additional fees for some tournaments.
Uniforms are provided on loan for the season.
What is your refund or cancellation policy?
The Rockford F.I.R.E. does not offer refunds, provided the program continues as planned. Collected fees help cover essential program costs such as facilities, equipment, uniforms, insurance, and other expenses. Because these costs are incurred before and during the season, all payments are non-refundable once registration is complete and the program is active.
How can I contact the organization with questions?
Whether you have questions about our athletic programs, registration, sponsorship opportunities, or anything else, we are here to help. You can reach us at info@therockfordfire.org.
What equipment is required?
Athletes are responsble for providing their own athletic shoes, appropriate and modest practice attire, knee pads (volleyball), and a water bottle. It is highly suggested that players have their own ball as well. Additional equipment or apparel requirements, if any, will be communicated by the athletic director or coach before the season begins.
Are volunteers needed?
Parent volunteers are an essential part of our program. In the spirit of homeschooling, we rely on families working together to create a positive experience for our athletes. Volunteer opportunities may include concessions, game setup and teardown, scorekeeping (book), operating the scoreboard or game clock, line judging (volleyball), admissions, or assisting with special events. Every family plays an important role in helping our program succeed.
How will I receive updates and announcements?
Communications are sent through email and our team app after your athlete joins the program. Families can expect to receive updates about practices, games, schedule changes, events, and other important announcements through these channels.
Are games played on holidays?
The Rockford F.I.R.E. values faith and family. We do not schedule games on major holidays, so families can enjoy meaningful time with loved ones.
Additionally, we also avoid scheduling games on Wednesdays, as many of our athletes participate in church youth groups on Wednesday evenings. On rare occasions, a tournament schedule may require an exception.
Are athletic directors and coaches screened?
Yes. All Rockford F.I.R.E. athletic directors and coaches are required to complete a background check and Illinois DCFS Mandated Reporter Training every three years.
In addition, all athletic directors and coaches are carefully vetted and are committed to upholding the Rockford F.I.R.E.'s policies, expectations, and athlete protection protocols to help provide a safe, positive, and Christ-centered environment for every partificipant and family.
What standards of conduct are athletes expected to follow?
Athletes, parents and spectators are expected to represent Christ and the Rockford F.I.R.E. with integrity, respect, and good sportsmanship. By participating in our program, families agree to uphold our Athlete Expectations, which outline our core values, behavioral standards, and commitment to honoring God both on and off the court.
